WOMEN ARE CHANGING THE WORLD FOR THE BETTER

An international conference was held in Astana on December 7th. The theme “Family Policy of Kazakhstan: Achievements and Prospects”, timed to the 20th anniversary of the National Commission for Women, Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Opening the conference, Secretary of State, National Commission Chairperson Gulshara Abdykalykova noted the important role of women and women's organizations in the transformation of Kazakhstan and their prestige in the international arena.

An effective platform for dialogue between the government, civil society and international organizations, created on the instructions and personal support of the President N.A. Nazarbayev.

    Meeting participants: Norima Shimomura, UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Kazakhstan; Gyorgy Szabo, Head of the OSCE Program Office in Astana; Elaine Konkievich, a representative of UN-Women in Kazakhstan; Agris Preimanis, Director of the Representative Office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the Republic of Kazakhstan; Balaji Krishnamurty, Deputy Managing Director of the Eurasian Division Chevron and others.

Issues of development of family values in Kazakhstan society and promotion of gender equality - are one of the main directions of state policy.

In this regard, the Department of Political Science of ENU proposed to the National Commission research projects of young scientists: Ph.D. and master students in the field of family and gender policy, which aroused an interest in their relevance.
