The Department of Political Science held an online open class on " The theory of elites in the political concepts of R. Michels and J. Schumpeter»

 

On 19.04.2021, at the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Journalism and Political Science, Candidate of Historical Sciences Abdrakhmanova Gauhar Satybaldinovna held an online open lesson on the discipline "Political leadership and elite theory" on the topic: "Theories of elites in the political concepts of R. Michels and J. Schumpeter" with students of the 2nd year of the educational program "Political Science". The class was held in accordance with the university's open class plan.

 

Revealing the purpose of the lesson, Associate Professor Abdrakhmanova G. S. noted that over the entire long period of the promotion of intellectuals to the position of an elite group, researchers have repeatedly turned to its analysis, so the political views of two elitologists - R. Michels and J. Schumpeter are still relevant today.

 

 During the study of the topic, the political concept of R. Michels "the iron law of oligarchy" and the theory of the elite model of democracy by I. Schumpeter were considered.

The class was attended by the responsible for educational and methodological work of the Department of Political Science, Ph. D., Associate Professor K. D. Zhanpeisova, Ph. D., Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science T. S. Kalenova. During the training session, the selected presentation material was demonstrated.

The students showed high activity, interest and showed a high level of theoretical training. In the final part of the open class, Abdrakhmanova G. S. analyzed the elite theories of two scientists and concluded that the methodological techniques proposed by R. Michels and I. Schumpeter does not have the character of an instrument applicable only to the situation of the twentieth century. By making adjustments dictated by modernity, their theories can be used in modern society.
