«Academic text as an intellectual activity»

2nd-year PhD student of the Department of «Political Science» of L.N.Gumilyov ENU Nakhbaeva Guliskhan Saifulinkyzy, the first international chess grandmaster in independent Kazakhstan, an expert of the Department of Internal Politics of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan (further – PA), on October 24, 2022, held an open seminar for students within the framework of pedagogical practice under the guidance of Doctor of Political Sciences R.A.Nurtazina, for the 2nd year undergraduate students of the Department of «Political Science» on the topic: «Academic text as an intellectual activity». This lesson was timed to the Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Concepts such as thesіs, procedures, opinions, facts, scientific texts were summarized, as well as described in detail and discussed with students using concrete examples. The students were actively involved in the learning process, asked a lot of questions and shared their skills and knowledge. In turn, it is important to note the high interest of the target audience, which indicates the relevance of this topic.

Guliskhan, as the first chess grandmaster, shared her experience in achieving goals and setting clear and correct tasks. And as an employee of the PA, she spoke about the importance of drawing up an expert opinion based on data from government agencies, analytical notes, including initiative letters addressed to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the leadership of the PA, abstracts and reports that influence political decision-making inside and outside the country.

During the open lesson, the following methods were used: story, explanation, conversation, discussion, case-study, survey, didactic game, etc.

In order to reinforce theoretical knowledge at the end of the lesson, two prepared topical cases (case-study) were analyzed, which were observed in details during the discussion.

In conclusion, the students expressed their gratitude to the lecturer for an intense and interesting lecture, and the lecturer – for the interest and involvement of students during the lecture.
