On October 27, 2022 at the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, 2nd year master student of the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science Zhumasatova Shynar within the framework of pedagogical practice, held an open lesson on the topic “Formation of the media audience. Public consciousness". The seminar for 1st year students on the discipline "Introduction to Journalism" was attended by the scientific supervisor of the undergraduate, head of the Department of Printing and Publishing, PhD Dr. Amangeldy Meyramuly Shurentaev and 2nd year undergraduates.
The purpose of the lesson is to provide students with comprehensive information, explain the importance of audience research for future journalists, and pay attention to the effectiveness of the media in shaping public consciousness.
During the seminar, 3 types of audience research were mentioned, such as analysis for socio-demographic characteristics, mass consciousness and informational characteristics. New information was presented on the topics of target audience formation, the relationship between the audience and future media products.
Students divided into 4 groups: «Khabar» channel, «KTK» channel, Azattyq.org, Inform.kz, focused on the features of the media they protect. They analyzed the news that resonated with the public using the «Case study method».
In the second part of the lesson, it was said that, depending on the positions of information portals, the same news is presented in different versions. Thus, it was clear that the target audience of each portal is being formed.
After that, various photographs were distributed to the groups, and they were given the task of compiling the news, taking into account the characteristics of the media they represented. The students were able to fully reveal the topic and were active throughout the seminar.
In the final part, the students were asked clarifying questions based on the results of the lesson and were given tasks for the next week.
The participants of the open lesson expressed their opinion and gave high marks. Amangeldy Meyramuly emphasized that the topic was covered comprehensively, the goal of the lesson was achieved.
