The team ENU Faculty of Journalism and Political Science finished second in the National Subject Olympiad.

On March 16-17, in Almaty (Kaskelen), the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law at Suleimen Demirel University organised the XV Republican Subject Olympiad in the direction of "6B032 Journalism and Information Training".

Teams selected from 17 top educational institutions in the country participated in a two-day educational competition. The 3rd year students (Aliev Kadyr, Erzhigitova Aigul, and Berzhanova Indira) of the Journalism and Political Science Department of Eurasian National University, under the guidance of senior tutor Gulzhazira Yertasova, tried their luck in the competition.
On the first day, the teams competed in the "case-solving" and "writing information" competitions.
Five cases were given to the participant in the "Case Solution" competition: media ethics, fact checking and use of facts, media literacy, and the law of journalism. Our students demonstrated critical thinking skills, media literacy, ethical norms, and journalistic rights, as well as the ability to check and apply facts.
In the "Writing Information" competition, participants were given information from three different sources about the same problem. According to the rules of this competition, our participants prepared a competent text on these three topics, capable of providing complete information in accordance with journalistic standards.
The next day of the Olympiad continued with the "Writing a Multimedia Product" contest. At this point, the team members had enough time to create a 4-5 minute video story in video story format on a mobile device.
As a result, the team from Kazakhstan-American University won 1st place, and the teams from L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University won 2nd place. The teams from Taraz University named after M.H. Dulati, Kostanai University named after A. Baitursynov, and the MKTU team named after H.A. Yassaui all finished in third place.
Teams that did not win were recognised in the following categories: "Most competent team," "Elegant camerawork," "Creative team," "Best editing," "Best news," "Best script," "Best critical opinion," "Fastest team," and "Most genius team."
In a two-day educational competition, participants visited the Kasteev Museum and took in the sights of the city.
Congratulations to the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science team members for defending the honour of the L.N. Gumilev Eurasian National University with a well-deserved second prize, and we wish them continued success!
